iWOMEN

 2016 iWOMEN students

This project is run annually and has an intake of 32 Year 10 female students from the 19 high schools in the KIC Education Partnership.

The iWOMEN Project is held in March and scheduled to allow students time to consider and select their Year 11 courses.  The Project runs two days per week for three weeks and involve workshops, presentations, industry excursions and mock interviews.

The purpose is to expose students to the numerous career opportunities in industry, gain an understanding of what industry does and what industry expects of employees.

This is achieved through industry excursions and spending time with people employed in industry. Students have an opportunity to meet and network with a range of professionals who are more than happy to take time out of their busy schedules to greet the young students and provide some guidance. In addition to the excursions, students actively participate in workshop sessions and activities that have been developed to help them realise their full potential. These include:

  • Team building;
  • Increasing their confidence and self esteem; and
  • Developing their young leader skills.

Workshops also include information sharing and presentations which will help guide the student through the practicalities of being ready for an interview. These include:

  • The use of social media and personal branding;
  • Preparing a professional resume;
  • Mock interviews with feedback from the interviewer.
