BHP Billiton Nickel West

BHP Billiton Nickel West is one of the world's leading nickel producers, with all its operations – mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery – located in Western Australia. 

bhpNickel West has the capacity to produce approximately 100,000 tonnes of nickel each year and employs a workforce of more than 2,000 employees and contractors across its operations.

o Mt Keith - a large, open-cut nickel mine and concentrator.
o Leinster - two underground nickel mines and a concentrator.
o Kalgoorlie - a concentrator at Kambalda processing third party feed producing nickel concentrate, and a smelter at Kalgoorlie, producing nickel matte.
o Kwinana –produces nickel metal in the form of London Metal Exchange grade nickel briquettes and nickel powder as well as a range of saleable co-products. 

Nickel West is a value-adding nickel business, mining nickel-bearing sulphide ore from sites along the highly prospective Agnew-Wiluna Greenstone belt in the Goldfields region, to produce nickel powder and briquettes in excess of 99 per cent nickel. 

It exports to overseas markets using the Western Australian ports of Fremantle, Esperance and Geraldton.

Nickel West has a large economic footprint in Western Australia, particularly in the Goldfields region, providing a wide range of employment opportunities and investing in long-term relationships with local contractors and service providers.

Nickel West has a strong focus on the health and safety of its people while ensuring production is achieved and that the environment and local communities benefit from its presence.
