2016 KIC iDIVERSITY Students 2016 iDIVERSITY students

This project is for students with special learning needs. It is run annually and has an intake of fourteen Year 10 students from the 19 high schools in the KIC Education Partnership.

The iDIVERSITY Project runs in October for two days per week for two weeks and involves workshops, presentations, industry excursions and resume preparation. The project also includes one-day work experience with a local industry or business.

The purpose is to expose students to the array of career opportunities in industry, to get an insight into what industry does, and what industry expects of employees.

This is accomplished through industry excursions and spending time with people employed in industry. Students have an opportunity to meet and network with a range of professionals who are more than happy to take time out of their busy schedules to meet these young people and provide some guidance. In addition to the excursions, students actively participate in workshop sessions and activities which have been developed to give them the confidence and help realise their full potential. These include:

  • Team building;
  • Increasing their confidence and self esteem; and
  • Developing their young leader skills.

Workshops also include information sharing and presentations to help guide the student through the practicalities of being ready for an interview. These include:

  • The use of social media and personal branding;
  • Preparing a professional resume; and
  • Mock interviews with feedback from the interviewer.
