Industry Futures

A vision for growth, prosperity and sustainability

Ahead of the 2025 state election, the Kwinana Industries Council, has prepared a major policy document setting out what local industry needs from government to drive growth, prosperity and sustainability.

‘Industry Futures’ is a clear, considered and sensible plan developed by local industry setting out six policy priority areas that need urgent attention.

The Western Trade Coast, including the Kwinana Industrial Area, is undergoing a major transformation with new projects, industries and expansions being planned. These include internationally significant opportunities such as renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, Westport, and defence industry projects.

‘The Kwinana Industries Council (KIC) serves as the peak industry association for the Western Trade Coast, representing the diverse range of industries that contribute significantly to Western Australia’s economy.’

VISION POLICY PRIORITIES

Our premier heavy industrial area won’t realise its full potential without government investment and policy support.

The following policy priorities have been identified by KIC requiring urgent attention.

1. Coordinated action across the Western Trade Coast
Adopting a coordinated, whole of government policy, planning and regulatory approach to support the future growth of the Western Trade Coast – the State’s premier heavy industrial area.

2. Decarbonisation
Transitioning towards decarbonisation is imperative for the sustainability of the heavy industry sector, requiring support and incentives from the government.

3. Westport
The future development of port infrastructure, including Westport, is critical for supporting the export capabilities of the region’s industries.

4. Land use and planning
Effective land use and planning policies are essential to accommodate industrial growth while ensuring compatibility with surrounding communities.

5. Critical infrastructure
Additional investment in local roads, rail, pipelines, and electricity infrastructure are necessary to support industrial operations and facilitate growth.

6. Building skills and labour
Developing a skilled workforce is essential to meet the evolving demands of the industrial sector and ensure its long-term viability.
